Firefox 3 finally gets the Google Toolbar

For those of you that love the Google Toolbar, but have been missing it with Firefox 3, your wait is over!

I figured we’d see it updated this week, since the public release of Firefox 3 is scheduled for tomorrow.  I also expect we’ll see an update to the Google Earth plug-in very soon, since it still doesn’t work on Firefox 3 yet.  For that matter, there are a lot of plug-ins that still don’t work on FF3.  How many will get updates this week?

OK, so I’m a naysayer to Google Toolbar–or any toolbar for that matter. Most don’t live up to promotion; many are simply junk and, worse yet, operatives for spyware (a category that Google Toolbar certainly does not fit).

I have, though, had to deal with browser issues caused by their toolbar. Open browser, 15 minutes later the homepage finally posts. After a number of troubleshooting steps, online searches, and other attempts, it wasn’t until after Google Toolbar was removed that the browser would properly load.

As a support technician, I’ve found this problem on three different computers–all with the same solution.

Pet peeve: Adobe, cCleaner, Java, and any number of other applications that want to install a toolbar by default. Argh. Oh well, uncheck another box…click Next.
