Honeybaked Ham has impressed me in the past. I went there a few days before Christmas and it was packed. I remember thinking “how could they not be prepared for this rush?” when I saw the line outside the door. However, as soon as I stepped inside I realized how wrong I was. They had over 20 employees working (instead of the normal 5 or 6), the whole store rearranged, ropes set-up to guide people through. They had a women greeting people at the door, two others giving out little samples, and other employees all the way through the line. I was in and out in 15 minutes – very impressive!
As I’ve mentioned before, we eat at their cafe from time to time. Lately, my (pregnant) wife has been craving it, so it’s been once or twice a week. For as prepared as they were at Christmas, they seem equally unprepared for lunch.
Granted, they don’t have a huge lunch crowd, although it’s a very good meal. The problem is that they only have six tables for the whole place! That’s a maximum capacity of 24, but you need to figure that most of them are just couples, so it’s closer to a capacity of just 12.
The last two times we’ve been there it’s been an issue. The last time we ended up having to wait a few minutes to even sit down. With a pregnant wife and a two-year-old, that sucks. The staff was very kind and apologetic, but it was still a frustrating situation. They have plenty of extra space in there to add at least a couple more tables, so I’m not sure what the deal is. I think I’ll shoot ’em an e-mail and I’ll be sure to report back what I hear.
