Don’t do it “soon”

I’m bad about planning to do things “soon”. It could be little things like taking out the trash, or bigger things like developing another course. In both cases, “soon” can be a big problem and simply doing it now can be a huge difference.

Seth Godin said it simply:

“Soon is not as good as now”

There is an old Chinese proverb that says “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” The same can be true of starting your blog, running your first 5K, or anything you want to do.

Getting in shape five years ago would have been ideal, but now is the best time you have.

Starting a blog ten years ago would have been great, but starting today is better than starting tomorrow.

Setting priorities can make things challenging as you don’t want to just chase new ideas every time they pop up, but if you have something that needs to be done, doing it “soon” might not be your best move.
