Here’s a bit about what I wrote, read and learned over the past week. I hope you find it helpful!
Blog posts from the past week
- Meditation for the soul: I’m trying to get back into the habit of regular meditation, as the benefits are amazing. Do you meditate regularly?
- Traffic to your home page is rising: The impact of AI on search engines is becoming weird, and this is a new one for me — while traffic to most sites from Google is fading, traffic to home pages is rising.
- A Brighter Circle: I’ve moved much of our “Brighter Web” content over to Circle and I’m quite impressed with how well it works.
- Market for sales, not vanity: “Now what do you want from me? Fine writing? Do you want masterpieces? Do you want glowing things that can be framed by copywriters, or do you want to see the god damn sales curve stop moving down and start moving up?”
- Single-focus AI tools are dead: It was pretty easy to see coming, and I think we’ve arrived — AI tools that are built for a single purpose are dead.
- Target walked through two one-way doors: “With a one-way door decision, take a breath, take a pause, do the research, slow down, and walk in. Because once you walk in, you’re there.” Target did that twice.
Noteworthy articles that I read
- Why Taxi Drivers Don’t Die of Alzheimers: The vast amount of information that they need to know (including “The Knowledge of London“, which I didn’t realize was a thing), seems to help keep their brains in better shape as they age.
Books that I’m reading
- I’m continuing to read “Nexus“, which is a massive book.
- I’ve started reading “The Art of Power“, which goes deeper into the benefits of meditation.
Tech Rec
Stealing the idea from my friends at the Tech Talk Y’all podcast, I’ll drop in some tech recommendation every week as well.
- Snipd: This is the podcast app that I use, and it’s amazing! The best feature is the “snip”; whenever you’re listening, you can tap the “snip” button and it’ll save that place in the show to review later. This is awesome when I’m driving, because when I hear something great I can simply tap that button and know that it’ll be waiting for me later. It’s a fairly simple feature, but it’s amazingly helpful!
It’s amazing, and I encourage you to check it out.
I hope you found some value in this. If you ever have questions, ideas, or disagreements regarding anything I write, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
