Here’s a bit about what I wrote, read and learned over the past week. I hope you find it helpful!
Blog posts from the past week
- Schema markup may not be very useful. I’ve had my concerns about the effectiveness of schema markup on websites, and a recent study from Ahrefs tends to agree with that idea. Schema markup, while seemingly useful, may not offer any real benefit when it comes to helping your website rank higher.
- Think Again, by Adam Grant. “We learn more from people who challenge our thought process than those who affirm our conclusions. Strong leaders engage their critics and make themselves stronger. Weak leaders silence their critics and make themselves weaker. This reaction isn’t limited to people in power. Although we might be on board with the principle, in practice we often miss out on the value of a challenge network.”
- The Invisible Leaps. “true creativity takes leaps that most people don’t even know can be taken“
- How to Take Smart Notes, by Sonke Ahrens. “There is another reason that note-taking flies mostly under the radar: We don’t experience any immediate negative feedback if we do it badly.”
- The Google search experience just shifted dramatically. Google search as you know it is over.
- Like it or not, you’ll probably use that new technology some day. “I’ll never get a phone with a camera in it. Why would someone want that? They’re so dumb.”
Books that I’m reading
I read for a total of 8:38 last week with the following:
- Continued “You Can’t Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike at a Seminar“
- Continued “East of Eden“
- Continued “The Exvangelicals“
Tech Rec
Stealing the idea from my friends at the Tech Talk Y’all podcast, I’ll drop in some tech recommendation every week as well.
- Google Keep. I’ve bounced around a lot of note-taking apps over the years, and always seem to come back to Google Keep. It’s not where I store my long-term notes (those are in Obsidian), but it’s a great place for fleeting notes. I can jot down ideas from my computer or my phone, or talk to my watch or car, and they all end up in the same place. It’s fantastic.
I hope you found some value in this. If you ever have questions, ideas, or disagreements regarding anything I write, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
